Peace Within

The light captures those quiet moments before the end of the day

Peace Within (photo John Hewson)

This is one of my favourite shots I’ve ever taken.

The art of light and darkness, the skin tones, he’s looking into the camera and calm, resting a the end of the day. The forest outside suggests the natural mountain setting as the sun lowers in the sky filtering in through the trees and cabin window to illuminate peace within.

Friends enter our lives for different reasons, this human craftsman and athlete full of energy and love of life, shared tales of snowboarding to the edge of cliffs, death-defying moments causing me to wince in agony of life in fragile balance with the wild call to live fully, playing in nature exploring our own. A stonemason by day, and imagineer over dinner and conversations by the fire.

I was bold enough to search out this image as he’s been on my mind, bold as I entered the image into the international summer photo contest with LensCulture, my commitment to share more and embrace the artist in me.

The prize if selected to be part of the winner exhibition in London, a compelling reason to head back to my homeland, celebrating this wonderful 30 year journey here in Canada, and the many wonderful people, places and experience that fill my heart.

Thank you…

Win or not, I hope you like the shot.
